About me

I was born in Madrid, Spain, and I am a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I studied at the Autonomous University of Madrid and  I obtained my Ph.D. from the University of Valencia. Along my career I collaborated with the Experimental Immunology Unit of the Research Center of the University Hospital "La Fe", in Valencia, and I was a member of the Congenital Coagulopathies Unit of the Valencian Community. I also worked at "The Scripps Research Institute", in La Jolla, California, in the group of "Molecular and Experimental Medicine" and I was an associate professor at the University of Valencia. I obtained research awards from the Spanish Associations of Clinical Biopathology, Hematology and Hemotherapy, Hemophilia, Pneumology, and the Department of Health of the Valencian Community. Later I joined the pharmaceutical industry, in activities related to the research and development of medicines, as well as with intellectual property (Patents), where I led a group of more than 200 researchers in Barcelona, Spain; Los Angeles, California; and in  the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. I was a member of an European Pharmacopoeia Group of experts for nearly 20 years, participated in task forces and scientific committees of the WHO and the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association, as well as in numerous workshops of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). I am currently a member of the Social Council of the University of Barcelona, after being appointed by the Parliament of Catalonia. The Social Council is the body through which society participates in the University, and its composition and functions are defined by the Law on Universities of Catalonia. I am also a member of the board of the foundation of the Scientific Park from the University of Barcelona, appointed by the Social Council of the University.

Nací en Madrid, España, y soy doctor en Bioquímica y Biología Molecular. Estudié en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid y obtuve mi doctorado en la Universidad de Valencia. A lo largo de mi carrera colaboré con la Unidad de Inmunología Experimental del Centro de Investigación del Hospital Universitario "La Fe", en Valencia, y fui miembro de la Unidad de Coagulopatías Congénitas de la Comunidad Valenciana. También trabajé en "The Scripps Research Institute", en La Jolla, California, en el grupo de "Medicina Molecular y Experimental" y fui profesor asociado en la Universidad de Valencia. Obtuve premios de investigación de las Asociaciones Españolas de Biopatología Clínica, Hematología y Hemoterapia, Hemofilia, Neumología, y del Departamento de Salud de la Comunidad Valenciana. Posteriormente me incorporé a la industria farmacéutica, en actividades relacionadas con la investigación y desarrollo de medicamentos, así como con la propiedad industrial (Patentes), donde lideré un grupo de más de 200 investigadores en Barcelona, España; Los Ángeles, California; y en el Research Triangle Park, Carolina del Norte. Fui miembro de un Grupo de expertos de la Farmacopea Europea durante casi 20 años, participé en grupos de trabajo y comités científicos de la OMS y la Asociación terapéutica de proteínas plasmáticas (PPTA), así como en numerosos talleres de la Agencia Europea de Medicamentos (EMA) y la Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos de los Estados Unidos (FDA). En la actualidad soy Miembro del Consejo Social de la Universidad de Barcelona, tras ser nombrado por el Parlament de Catalunya. El Consejo Social es el órgano mediante el cual la sociedad participa en la Universidad, y su composición y funciones están definidas por la Ley de Universidades de Cataluña. También soy miembro del patronato de la fundación del Parc Científic de la Universidad de Barcelona, nombrado por el Consejo Social de la Universidad.
